Snohomish County detectives believe they have found the bodies of an Arlington couple who went missing last month and who were thought to have been murdered by their estranged neighbor.

Patrick Shunn, 45, who worked in Kirkland, and his wife Monique Patenaude, 46, went missing on April 12 after they failed to show up for work.

The Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office identified John Reed, 53, and his brother Tony Reed, 49, as suspects shortly after and issued first-degree murder warrants for their arrests.

After fleeing to Mexico, Tony Reed turned himself in to authorities at the US-Mexico border on May 16 and was returned to Snohomish County.

According to a press release, Snohomish County deputies used information they received from Tony Reed to locate the bodies.

Tony Reed is charged with helping his brother murder the couple and dispose of their bodies in the woods near the couple’s Oso home. John Reed is still being sought by authorities.

After the couple was reported missing, two of their vehicles were found on April 14 near Oso.

The Reed brothers fled to their parents’ home in Ellensburg and later a vehicle they were driving was found in Phoenix, Arizona on April 18.

John Reed’s property was adjacent to the site of the 2014 Oso mudslide, which killed 43 people. His property was deemed unlivable and was recently bought by the county.

The couple had reported that John Reed was illegally living in his old house, and could have played a role in the couple’s murder.
