Congresswoman Suzan DelBene will celebrate the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., federal holiday by volunteering at multiple events in the district.

In 1994, Congress designated the MLK holiday as a National Day of Service so that it would be “a day on, not a day off.”

In honor of Dr. King’s legacy of service, DelBene will join UW Bothell and Cascadia College students on Saturday in sorting and stocking clothing donations for Threads and Treads – a volunteer-based resource that provides free clothing for Northshore families.

On Monday, DelBene will join Friends of Youth in doing landscaping work for their facility in Kirkland. Friends of Youth helps more than 5,500 young people each year in the Puget Sound region by providing temporary shelter and counseling.
