Comcast awards scholarships to two Kirkland residents

The Comcast Foundation today announced June 3 that Kirkland residents Chandler Olsen and Tara Toman are among the 2014-15 recipients of its annual Leaders and Achievers Scholarship Program awards. There are 90 recipients statewide.

The Comcast Foundation today announced June 3 that Kirkland residents Chandler Olsen and Tara Toman are among the 2014-15 recipients of its annual Leaders and Achievers Scholarship Program awards. There are 90 recipients statewide.

“This year’s scholarship winners demonstrate exemplary commitment to leadership in both their classrooms and community,” said Len Rozek, senior vice president of Comcast in Washington. “We are proud to recognize their achievements, and are excited to support them as they continue their educational journeys.”

Olsen attends Inglemoor High School and his activities include student body president and a variety of sports leadership roles and academic awards. He was a cofounder of the new IHS Spirit Club and has been involved with numerous groups ranging from the Washington Lacrosse Officials Association and YMCA to the Future Business Leaders of America.

Toman attends Juanita High School and her activities include Homeward Pet Adoption Center volunteer, the National Honor Society, Class Cabinet, Cross Country, Girl Scouts and volunteering to cook at a homeless shelter. She was a Relay for Life captain and top youth fundraiser in the Relay for Life.

The students who can attend will be honored Thursday, June 5, 2014, at a ceremony at the Washington State Governor’s Mansion in Olympia.
