Celebrate Kirkland reaches out to save July 4 Fireworks

Fourth of July organizers Celebrate Kirkland have issued a plea for help to the community to help save the traditional fireworks show that takes place at dusk in Moss Bay.

Following city budget cuts worth nearly $20 million last year and the economic downturn, organizers say public and private contributions have dropped by half.

Called “Save Kirkland’s Fourth of July!”, Celebrate Kirkland director and local business owner Penny Sweet has teamed up with Susan Burnash of Purple Duck Marketing in an effort to raise enough money to fully fund and equip the tug-boat, barge, staff and fireworks to continue the festivities this year.

“We really need your donations,” reads a notice on their fund-raising page at the social-networking Website Facebook. “Without your help, there may not be fireworks on the Fourth.”

To make a donation, go to the Celebrate Kirkland Web site, or stop in to The Grape Choice wine shop and donate in person, at Seven Lake Shore Plaza. The Kirkland Reporter office, located at 720 Market Street, also has a container set up for firework fund donations.
