Hunzginer serves in AmeriCorps

Sam Hunzginer of Kirkland was recently deployed to begin work on his first service project of the year with the National Civilian Community Corps (NCCC), an AmeriCorps program.

As a Corps Member, Hunzginer will be responsible for completing a series of six- to eight-week-long service projects as part of a 10- to 12-person team. His first service project will end on December 19, at which time his team will break for the winter holidays and begin a new project in a new location on January 5.

Before joining the NCCC, Hunzginer attended Juanita High School, which he graduated from in June 2008.

Hunzginer said, “I met people in the YMCA Earth Service Corps who told me wonderful things about the program.”

Louanne and Scott Hunzinger are Sam’s parents.

Four LWTC

students honored

The Lake Washington College Foundation has awarded 56 student scholarships totaling more than $38,000 for the 2008-09 college year. More than 20 of the LWTC students receiving scholarships were honored by the Foundation during the recent Celebrate Your Success ceremony at the college.

Students recognized at this event included four Kirkland residents:Christina Darling, Rhiannon Vanlandingham, Kyndall Child and Cody Martin.
