Last week, a semi-trailer truck clipped a corner of the historic downtown Pioneer Square pergola in Seattle. Luckily, the pergola wasn’t badly damaged and only needed some paint touchups. It was a far luckier outcome than what happened back in 2001 when a semi-truck driver from Greensburg, Pennsylvania also clipped the pergola and caused the entire structure to collapse in ruin in the wee hours of the morning. Through an odd mix of circumstance and humor, Laughs Comedy Spot briefly played host last week to a national tribute to honor one of their own, comedian Mitch Hedberg.
Students have trudged along the muddy Cotton Hill Park Trail to get to Kirkland Junior High and Peter Kirk Elementary schools. Highland residents have also used the trail for walking or jogging to the nearby Crestwoods Park.
A grand opening for the newest link in Kirkland’s chain of urban trails – the Cotton Hill Park Trail – will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 13.

The first week of September can be considered a second spring in our Western Washington climate. Cooler nights encourage root growth, so fall is for planting.
