The Kirkland Heritage Society will host a performance of In the Land of Rain and Salmon at Heritage Hall from 7-8 p.m. on Jan. 29 at Heritage Hall in Kirkland.

In the Land of Rain and Salmon incorporates stories of Washington State’s Jewish immigrants who came to the area during the nineteenth century through the 1920s. It was adapted by Rachel Atkins from material in the Jewish Archives at the University of Washington Special Collections Library and the book, Family of Strangers: Building a Jewish Community in Washington State. Directed by Annie Lareau, the performance weaves together accounts of individuals who were isolated from each other by language, religious customs and generations but who ultimately succeeded in developing a community that made significant civic and cultural contributions to Seattle and King County.

This free performance is co-sponsored by: Book-It Repertory Theatre, 4Culture, Seattle Hebrew Academy, Jewish Federation of Greater Seattle and JT News.
