Studio East and StoryBook Theater have three shows destined to delight theater lovers of all ages this spring. The youngest audiences, and their parents, will enjoy a touring production of StoryBook Theater’s 55-minute musical Goldilocks and the Three Bears. Most fifth graders and older will enjoy Studio East’s 13: A Musical, and for elementary and middle schoolers, Studio East presents The Secret Garden.
In Goldilocks and the Three Bears, golden curls and mood swings do not necessarily mix with an over-pampered, but adorable, baby bear. Can a famished little girl put her spoiled behavior on the back shelf and learn how to be a friend to a lonely baby bear who hungers for a playfellow? Through listening and taking turns, these two misfits discover the power of having fun and being a friend. Tickets to Goldilocks and the Three Bears are $10 for all patrons over one year of age and can be purchased at www.storybooktheater.org.
There will be 12 shows at the Kirkland Performance Center located at 350 Kirkland Ave. The shows will take place at 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. on Feb. 1, 2, 8 and 9. The Feb. 9 show will also have ASL interpreted for the deaf.
In 13: A Musical, Evan Goldman just wants to make friends and survive the school year – easier said than done. His parents are getting divorced and he is forced to move from New York to a small town in Indiana. 13 is a high-energy musical about discovering that “cool” is where you find it and sometimes where you least expect it. It is recommended for ages 11+ and has a running time of approximately 2.5 hours. Adult tickets are $14, while students and seniors are $12. All Gala tickets are $18. Performances are 6:30 p.m. on Jan. 31 and at 7:30 p.m. on Feb. 1, 7 and 8; along with 2:30 p.m. show times on Feb. 2 and 9.
The Secret Garden, based on the novel by Frances Hodgson Burnett, is set in the early years of the 20th century. It tells of 11 year-old Mary Lennox, an English girl born and raised in the British Raj, who is orphaned by a cholera outbreak. Sent away from her home in India to England to live with a reclusive uncle, Mary suddenly faces a very different life. With the help of a young gardener on her uncle’s estate, Mary brings new life to a neglected garden and new love to the lives of those around her. It is recommended for ages 9 and up and has a running time of approximately 2.5 hours. Adult tickets are $14, while students and seniors are $12. All Gala tickets are $18. All performances are at the Studio East Mainstage Theater located at 11730 118th Ave NE in Kirkland. Opening night will be 6:30 p.m. on March 21; 7:30 p.m. on March 22, 28 and 29; and 2:30 p.m. on March 23 and 30.
