I think “Women have it better than men today” (Jeff Jared, April 7 issue) is in the eye of the beholder. The article writer comes from a position of a white male, so has not experienced the world from a female perspective. I would gladly trade “more retail space for women” and “broader clothing roles?” for more representation of my female counterparts in the supreme court, politics, management of major corporations, institutions and those positions that actually have the power and can make decisions affecting all of us. If men are “more fragile,” then perhaps the forklift driver position should be given to a woman, along with the pay. We would gladly accept equal pay, instead of the current 78 percent of what men are paid (source National Organization for Women). Most women would give up a few years in “lifespan” for decent day care, which would be commonplace if men had the children. I disagree with his article. The U.S. is still run and controlled by predominately white males and those ongoing decisions affect all of us, especially females and minorities. Having it worse or better depends on your definition.
