Come Along Kids thanks Kirkland volunteers | Letter

On April 8, more than 34 low income children from Kirkland Heights – one of our low income housing developments in Kirkland – had the opportunity to experience some awesome Spring break fun at an event called “Come Along Kids,” which offered a wholesome meal, games and a trip to a toy booth which allowed them to get some wonderful items to complete their spring break week.
Six agencies made this experience happen. I would like to thank the manager of Kirkland Heights for helping to spread the word among the development; thank LDS Church for donating their space for the event; Eastside Community Aid Thrift Shop for providing the funds for this recreational experience: Kirkland Interfaith Network (KIN) for their belief that “all children have a right to recreational experiences;” Northwest University for donating the outdoor recreational materials; and last but not least, Eastside Timebank for stepping up to the plate and providing volunteers to help once again “meet an unmet need” in our local community.
As a community advocate, I am amazed and enlightened by all the great “partnerships” we had in Kirkland for this event, and will continue to have which work toward making a difference in the lives of those less financially fortunate.
With Gratitude,
Margaret Schwender, Kirkland
