Kirkland City cancellations, closures and winter weather safety tips

The City of Kirkland reports the following storm updates and offers safety tips for winter weather conditions.
City meetings
The Kirkland City Council study session and regular meeting will be held this evening with some agenda items to be rescheduled to the Feb. 7 meeting. The Jan, 18 community workshop on the proposed new fire station in Finn Hill is cancelled and will be rescheduled soon.
City services
City Hall is open regular hours today (8 a.m. to 5 p.m.).
Kirkland Municipal Court is open today (8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.).
All city recreation programs and classes are cancelled. The city cancels its recreation programs when Lake Washington School District cancels school. Call the City Recreation Hotline at 425-587-3335 for updates.
Building inspection services are being conducted today as road conditions allow. If inspection services are cancelled for Wednesday, Jan. 18, applicants will be notified.
Road maintenance crews continue to monitor road conditions and will implement the “Priority Snow Removal Route” as snow accumulations increase.
Other services
Waste Management:
Tuesday, Jan. 17: Residential garbage and recycling service will be provided but please expect delays. Some areas may not receive service due to unsafe road conditions.
Residential food/yard waste will not be collected. A double load of food/yard waste will be collected on Tuesday, Jan. 24. Commercial service will be provided, as road conditions permit. Commercial service will be provided on Saturday to recover pickups missed due to the inclement weather.
Service to residential or commercial routes was also cancelled Monday. Please remove your carts from the street and store your garbage and recyclables. A double load of garbage and recyclables will be collected on Monday, Jan. 23. For more information, call 800-592-9995.
King County Metro Transit:

Neighborhood & community meetings
The Amateur Radio Emergency Services (ARES) general meeting for tonight is cancelled.Evergreen Hill Neighborhood Association meeting for Wednesday, Jan. 18 is cancelled.

Safety tips and suggestions
The city’s Water Division encourages residents and businesses to clear their water meters for ease of access should the meters need to shut off or checked by the city.
The city seeks help from residents and businesses in clearing storm drains of snow and debris so that water can properly enter the storm drain system.
Property owners adjacent to sidewalks are responsible for keeping the sidewalk clear of snow and debris.
