Northwest University men fall to No. 8 Northwest Christian

The Northwest Christian University men’s basketball team handed Northwest University a narrow Cascade Collegiate Conference loss, 92-88, on Saturday at the NU Pavilion in Kirkland.

The Beacons (14-2 Cascade, 20-3) trailed early, but took a one-point lead late in the first half and held an advantage the remainder of the game.

Ben Tucakovic led Northwest (9-8, 17-8) with 27 points and 7 rebounds. Michael Dupree and Dak Shagren each scored 15 for the Eagles, who shot 49 percent for the night. NU managed just 6 of 17 from the free throw line.

Kenny Blackwell led five Northwest Christian players in double figures with 18 points. Michael Loomis came off the bench to score 15 points; Jay Mayernik with 13 points and 11 rebounds; Brendyn Taylor dropped in 12; and Jack Hackman finished with 11.

Northwest is scheduled to wrap up the regular season on Feb. 11 with a home game against Walla Walla University.
