Susan Minnette Sprain Carter

Sue Carter, a long time Kirkland resident, passed away at Evergreen Hospice Care Center on August 4, 2014 of brain cancer. She was 83.

Sue was born in Deer Park, Illinois and grew up in Downers Grove. Following graduation from Northern University in Illinois with her teaching degree she married and moved to the Seattle area with her husband Robert Carter in 1954. They settled in the Kirkland area shortly after they arrived to Washington. Sue was always very active in her community. She belonged to several community organizations: Kirkland Heritage Society, Kiwanis, Parents Without Partners, PTA, Girl Scouts and more. She worked as a substitute teacher, independent adult home operator, a counselor for seniors and became a volunteer tutor Eastside Academy in her retirement.

She is survived by her three daughters: Cynthia C. Obtinario, Jennifer Brink, and Carolyn Bertram, 8 grandchildren, and 7 great-grandchildren.

A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held at Kirkland Congregational Church at 106 5th Avenue on Saturday September 13 at 2PM. For more information about Sue’s life visit: www.bartonfuneral.com
