Richard Wayne Ekins

Richard was born September 1, 1927 in Spokane, WA. After High School in Eastern WA and Coeur d Alene ID, he enrolled at the University of WA for a year. He served his country in the U.S. Army, then returned to the University of WA and received his Bachelor Degree in 1950.

Dick worked several years at General Electric Supply Company. After leaving GE, the next 28 years he was the owner of Kirkland True Value Hardware. Dick enjoyed his Kirkland years. He was actively involved in the City Council, the Kirkland Chamber of Commerce, and Kirkland Kiwanis.

For many years Dick’s spare time was spent on Whidbey Island either working in the garden, or upgrading the Cabin. One of his favorite travels was to Reardan, WA where he grew up.

On December 14, 2014 Dick passed away in Kirkland WA after a brief illness.

Dick is survived by his wife of 61 years, Sandy, his son, Randy (Susan) and two grandchildren; Catie and Michael.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to donor’s charity of choice.
