A frightening reality | Letter

One can only conclude that President Donald Trump’s reality is his and his alone.

That’s frightening.

It doesn’t matter whether we are discussing his imaginary respect for women, his belief that he can “win” a trade war with tariffs or that the election on Nov. 6 was a “tremendous victory [for Republicans].”

Trump’s reality — the opposite of my own reality — is a figment of his narcissistic imagination where the whole world is Trump-centric. Where Trump is both omen and oracle, incapable of any missteps or mistakes. He lives in a fictive world without need of truth or facts because the presidency is simply part of a worldwide reality TV show, starring Donald Trump.

For Trump, the presidency is theater, pure and simple. The rest of us are expected to tune in — as we have been for the past two years — vainly hoping that somehow our president would be transformed into a decent human being, an astute statesman, or an empathetic and capable leader. Alas, the opposite is true — and two years remain in his term.

That’s truly frightening.
