World Series: USA Southeast rallies past Kirkland

With three games of pool play in the books, the Kirkland Junior League softball team still has a shot at the knockout round of the World Series, but all the weight shifts to tonight’s final pool play match up against USA Central.

Earlier on Tuesday, USA Southeast rallied for a 5-4 victory over the host team at Everest Park in Kirkland.

Southeast trailed Kirkland (1-2) by a run in the top of the sixth inning, but scored twice in the bottom half of the frame to take its first lead of the game.

Kirkland also lead 3-1 in the top of the third inning before Southeast (2-1) tied the game on a wild pitch.

Haley Brown, who was walked with the bases loaded in the fifth inning, finished with two RBIs to lead Kirkland. Jentri Meadows had two hits for Southeast.

Jane Wilson pitched her second complete game of the tournament for Kirkland, throwing six innings and allowing five earned runs with three strikeouts and a walk.

Southeast used three pitchers, Aubrey Tuell, Annisten Christiensen and Kali Morton, who combined for nine hits and three strikeouts.

Next, Kirkland will close out pool play at 5 p.m. on Tuesday at Everest Park. A win guarantees Kirkland’s path to the knockout round.
