Thayer Davis wins girls’ 100, 400 races at Bellevue High School | Prep track

The speed of Lake Washington High freshman Thayer Davis was on display on Thursday, April 14, at Bellevue High School. Davis won the 100- and 400-meter races, and ran a leg for the 4×100 meter relay team, which took second.

Davis remains one of the fastest freshmen in the state, and won the 100 with a time of 13.18 seconds on Thursday. Davis beat Rebekah Roberts of Newport by nearly two seconds in the 400 meters.

In the 200 meters, Lake Washington freshman Taryn Chisolm finished second in 28.21 seconds, while sophomore Claire Cocales won the 800-meter run in 2:27.12.

Senior Megan Phillips won the shot put with a mark of 33 feet, 4 inches and also won the discus competition, tossing 93 feet, 1 inch. LW freshman Zaria Opara took second in the shot put and sophomore Grave Guerrero took second in the discus.

Lake Washington’s Margret Helgeson won the high jump with a mark of four feet, 10 inches, and also won the triple jump, clearing 30-1.75. Natalie Vetto won the javelin with a throw of 120 feet, 1 inch.

The hurdles drew the greatest highlights for the LW boys. Seniors Chris Roa and Forrest Malcolm swept the top two placings in the 110-meter hurdles, while Malcolm finished second in the 300-meter event.

Senior Scout Callens won the 200-meter race, finishing in 23.06 seconds, and Cody Wilson took third.

Alex Guerrero won the boys’ discus competition, throwing 125 feet, 8 inches. Brandon Gockel won the javelin with a mark of 167 feet, 11 inches.

Next, Lake Washington is scheduled to take part in the Pasco Invitational in the Tri-Cities area, while some athletes will attend the Add It Up Invitational at Franklin Pierce High School in Tacoma. Both events are scheduled for Saturday, April 16.
