Rebels crush Mercer Island 39-7 behind Laufasa’s three touchdowns

The Juanita High School football team defeated Mercer Island, 39-7, Friday at Islander Stadium behind running back Jerimiah Laufasa’s three touchdown scores.

Laufasa began the game with a 62-yard touchdown run that sparked the Rebels’ on offense. A 15-yard touchdown run by Laufasa gave Juanita a 13-0 lead before the end of the first quarter. Rebel teammate Cole Graves was not to be denied a trip into the end zone either, breaking free for a 55-yard touchdown run and a six-yard score to give Juanita a nearly insurmountable 25-0 lead before half time. Juanita’s defense managed to completely shutdown Mercer Island in the win and rain.

Andre Casino scored the Rebel’s fifth running touchdown of the game behind a big push from the offensive line, extending the lead to 32-0.

Juanita scored its only touchdown through the air during the fourth quarter, as Derek Kaufman found Laufasa for a 34-yard strike.

Mercer Island finally got on the board during the waning moments of the game on a one-yard touchdown run.

The win leaves Juanita with a 3-3 record, the same as two other teams in the league. The Rebels will finish in fourth place in 3A KingCo thanks to head-to-head tie breakers and a loss to Mount Si.
