Prep roundup: Juanita basketball sweeps Sammamish in Friday doubleheader

The Juanita High boys basketball team cruised to a 67-44 conference victory over Sammamish on Friday in Bellevue.

Down early in the game, Juanita outscored Sammamish 22-10 in the second quarter for a halftime lead.

The Rebels (4-5 KingCo, 7-8) have won two in a row after a rough start to the month of January. Sammamish fell to 0-9 in conference play and 0-15 on the season.

Next, Juanita has a road game against Mercer Island at 7:15 p.m. on Jan. 17 at Mercer Island High School.

Lake Washington 72, Interlake 53

The Kangs picked up their third win in four games with a blowout of the Saints on Jan. 13 in Bellevue.

It was the second-highest point total of the season for Lake Washington (4-4, 6-4), which sits a half-game behind Redmond for fourth in the conference standings.

Next, the Kangs are scheduled to play winless Sammamish at 7:15 p.m. on Jan. 17 at Sammamish High School in Bellevue.

Cedar Park Christian (MTL) 73, Providence Classical Christian (Kirkland) 24

The Highlanders fell to 2-4 in Northwest 1B League play with a big loss to Cedar Park Christian-Mountlake Terrace on Jan. 10.

Providence, which is based in Kirkland but plays home games at Overlake Christian Church in Redmond, gave up a nonleague forfeit to Lummi Nation on Jan. 14, and is set to continue league play on Jan. 17 against Orcas Island.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Juanita 61, Sammamish 38

Rebel senior Tea Adams led Juanita to a conference win with 21 points on Friday in Bellevue.

The Rebels (6-3, 10-5) led 24-16 at halftime and 48-27 after three quarters. Sophomore post Alexis Intong added 10 points and five rebounds in the win for Juanita.

Promise Taylor scored 22 points in the loss for Sammamish (2-7, 5-10).

Next, Juanita is set for a road rematch with undefeated Mercer Island (9-0, 11-0) on Jan. 18. The Islanders handed Juanita its most lopsided loss of the season, 64-39, on Jan. 7.

The Rebels are a half-game behind Redmond and Bellevue for the second seed in the conference standings. The top two teams get a bye in the first round of the conference tournament, scheduled to begin on Feb. 8 at Lake Washington High School.

Interlake 43, Lake Washington 38

The Kangs held a led after the first quarter and again after the third period, but a fourth-quarter rally by Interlake was enough to send Lake Washington to its seventh conference loss on Jan. 13 in Bellevue.

Lake Washington (1-7, 2-12) lost for the fifth consecutive time and the seventh consecutive conference game. The Kangs beat Interlake 46-45 in the conference opener on Dec. 7.

Olivia Smallman led Lake Washington with 12 points. Sydney Olson had nine points and Jen Estes had seven.

Interlake’s Maddie Chandler led the Saints (2-7, 5-9) with 14 points.

Next, Lake Washington is scheduled to play Sammamish at 7:15 p.m. on Jan. 18 in Bellevue.
