The Lake Washington High junior set a new personal record in the javelin at Mt. Tahoma Stadium in Tacoma, claiming third place at the Class 3A state championships with a mark of 132 feet, 3 inches.

Vetto’s throw was the second-furthest in school history, behind only Catherine Kraayeveld’s mark of 145-07 from 2000.

Only three girls from the Lake Washington team made finals, all in throwing or jumping events. Senior Georgia Romine-Black finished sixth in the shot put with a personal best mark of 37 feet, 6.25 inches, and Brittany Blaskovich cleared 10 feet to take 10th overall in the pole vault.

Freshman Thayer Davis qualified for state in the 400 meters, but did not make finals.

As a team, Lake Washington finished 27th with nine points. Lynwood won the girls’ team title with 55 points.

The Juanita girls had two representatives in finals. Junior Natayah Bauer qualified for state in all three throwing events, and finished fifth in the shot put despite throwing two feet short of her personal best. Bauer finished 11th in the discus and 13th in the javelin.

Juanita sophomore Tamani Smart made the podium in the triple jump, clearing 35-04.5 for eighth overall.

Kelsey McLean barely missed finals in the 100 meters, finishing ninth in prelims. Lake Washington senior Natalie Kalda missed finals in the 100 meter hurdles, and junior Shelby Wilks missed finals in the 300 meter hurdles.

The Juanita girls’ 4×100 meter relay team finished 12th overall, and ran only in the preliminary round. The 4×200 relay team finished 10th.

BOYS RESULTS

The Lake Washington boys’ 4×100 meter relay team finished fourth with a time of 43.28 seconds.

Scout Callens, who ran a leg of the relay for the Kangaroos, finished 12th overall in the 200 meters.

Junior Brandon Gockel threw 141 feet, eight inches to place 15th in the javelin, and senior Alex Guerrero threw 118 feet, five inches to finished 16th in the discus competition.

As a team, the Kangaroo boys finished in a tie for 30th with six points. Juanita finished 23rd with 10 points. Lincoln won the meet with 45.66 points, and Bonney Lake took second with 40 points.

Juanita senior Nathan Casebier was among the top finishers for the Rebel boys. Casebier took the second seed into the 110 meter hurdle finals and finished fourth overall in 15.09 seconds.

Fellow senior Randy Jones cleared 22 feet, 5.5 inches to take fifth in the long jump, but fouled out of the triple jump competition without a scoring mark.

Jones also ran a leg of the 4×400 meter relay team which made finals and finished eighth overall, and finished 17th overall in the 300 meter hurdles.

Tom Mikkelson finished ninth and Adrian Goodwin finished 14th in the 3200 meters, and Noah Kells finished 10th in the 800 meters.
