The Kangs only managed to post 15 points during the first half, as much as Newport scored during the first quarter. Lake Washington kept pace with the Knights during the third quarter, but could not gain enough momentum to get back into the game. The Kangs’ biggest problem was slowing down Newport’s Caitlin Bennett, who scored 25 points. Kang player Kasey Coffey led the team with 11 points.

The Wildcats dominated the second quarter, extending a three-point lead to 38-25 by halftime. Juanita put together a run during the fourth quarter, pounding the Cats for 22 points and cutting the lead back to just five points. But Mount Si would prove to be too much during the final quarter. The Juanita defense had few answers for the Mount Si’s Tanner Riley, who scored 29 points to lead all scorers. Ryon Cunnigan led the Rebels with 24 points, while teammate Zac Brandon had a season high 13 points.

Lake Washington held the Beavers to just four points during the third quarter and nine during the fourth. Offensively, the Kangs were led by Colleen Walsh with 10 points, while teammates Sam Brender, Hunter Hopkins and Taylor Solomon contributed nine points each. Lake Washington will travel to Newport High School for a 7:30 p.m. tip off Tuesday.
Nothing went right for the Juanita High School boys basketball team Friday during their loss to league-leading Bellevue 71-40. The Wolverines (9-0) built a 34-16 halftime lead and never looked back. The Bellevue defense even did something that most teams have not been able to do this year, slow down the Rebel’s Ryon Cunnigan. Juanita’s leading scorer, who averages over 18 points a game, was held to just 12 points during the contest. The Rebels (2-7) will attempt to get back on track at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday as they host Mount Si.
Three days after a loss to Garfield and slipping back into a tie with Inglemoor and Woodinville for the top spot in the Crown Division of 4A KingCo, Ryan Guisness took control. The senior forward scored a season high 26 points to lead his team back to the win column as they defeated Ballard 78-70.

Alex Coffey and Peter Loft had the best performances of the meet for the Kangs, winning one individual race each and combining to help teammates Hayden Hurley and Mike Polyakov to take first in the 200-yard freestyle relay in a time of 1:37.09. Coffey won the 50-yard freestyle (22.93), while Loft dominated the 100-yard freestyle (55.04). George Meier was the only other Lake Washington athlete to win an event, scoring 200.60 points during the diving competition.
