Northwest University’s Kortney Hudak scored the golden goal in overtime to give the Eagles a 2-1 win over Trinity Lutheran on Sunday.

Hudak’s goal came just 1:48 into the overtime period as her shot from the left side, nine-yards out was mishandled by the TLC goalkeeper and the ball rolled into the goal. Tiffany Hudak right footed Tiffany Taylor’s pass for the score.

After a scoreless first half Trinity Lutheran took the 1-0 lead in the 68th minute when Taylor Cannal scored after Jalisa Santiago’s shot came off the right post and Cannal one touched the ball in from 8 yards out.

Gabriela De Andrade tied the game up at 75:16 finishing off Jessie Nicholl’s cross from the left side. De Andrade’s blast sailed in from 10-yards out.

Northwest U (1-5-1) dominated the shots with a 27-13 margin and held TLC without a shot in the first half. NU goalkeeper Lauren Patefield (Puyallup, Wash.) earns her first win of the season making six saves for the Eagles. Colby Smits saved 9 for Trinity Lutheran (2-5). Samantha Porter led NU with six shots, four on goal while teammate Tiffany Taylor had five attempts with one shot on goal. Jalisa Santiago led TLC with six shots, four on goal.

Northwest U now prepares for their conference opener against Warner Pacific on Friday in Portland, Ore.
