The Northwest University Eagles softball team opened up Cascade Conference play Friday with a sweep of their doubleheader with Walla Walla University.

The Northwest University Eagles softball team opened up Cascade Conference play Friday with a sweep of their doubleheader with Walla Walla University. NU defeated the Wolves 16-6 in five innings and then shut out WWU, 10-0, in five innings with a one-hit effort by Eagle pitcher Hannah Yelas.

GAME 1 – Kelli Peckham picked up the win in the circle for Northwest U (4-7, 1-0 CCC) giving up just six hits while striking out 10 WWU batters. The Eagles put together 16 hits for the day led by Courtney Cox who went 2-for-4 with three RBIs and scored a run. Savannah Rush was 2-for-3, scored twice and added three RBIs. Allie Anderegg went 1-for-2 from the plate, scored two runs and had two RBIs with a home run. Danielle Bonsky also had two RBIs with a 2-for-4 day at the plate. The Eagles played error-free softball for the five innings.

GAME 2 – Northwest U (5-7, 2-0 CCC) was led by Janey Ganta (2-for-2, three RBIs and a home run) and Desiree Mendola (2-for-3, three RBIs and a home run). Savannah Rush was 2-for-3, scored twice and batted in a run with a home run. NU committed just one error in the game. Yelas would retire the side in the bottom of the fifth ending the game. She would not allow a Walla Walla base runner in the final three innings.
