LW football to hold Legacy, Blackout nights on Friday

Lake Washington High will host WF West at 7 p.m. Friday in a nonconference football matchup. It will be both Legacy Night — when former players will be honored — and Blackout Night — when the Kangs will wear black uniforms instead of the school purple and white.

Three current deserving players are wearing retired jersey numbers — which have been named Legacy jersey numbers — this season:

Eduardo Rojas is wearing No. 5 in honor of Bill Kilgore, Kirkland High School Class of 1942, who died on July 1, 1940.

Jacob Smith is sporting No. 55 in honor of Jake Herring, LW Class of 2001, who was killed in Iraq in 2004.

Sam Showalter is donning No. 86 for Barry Bannister, LW Class of 1980, who was paralyzed in a traffic accident while on his way home for lunch in his senior year. Bannister still lives in the Kirkland area and attends LW games and practices occasionally.
