Lake Washington’s Kelly Wantanabe and Jess Lund take 8th in state doubles | Tennis

Lake Washington High School’s Kelly Wantanabe and Jess Lund brought home an eighth place finish from the 4A girls state tennis tournament. The duo lost their final game in the consolation bracket to Amanda Waldron and Michelle Nelson of Edmonds-Woodway.

The duo lost their final game in the consolation bracket to Amanda Waldron and Michelle Nelson of Edmonds-Woodway.

They started off the weekend losing to Tess Manthou and Alyssa Nagai of Kentwood 4-6, 6-4, 6-4. Moving into the consolation round the team beat Sophie Roben and Sarah Fine from Edmonds-Woodway 6-1, 6-0. They advanced to face Sierra Southworth and Maria Bahlenhorst from Tahoma High School, whom they beat 6-3, 6-3.

Waldron and Nelson eventually earned the fourth place trophy.

Several members of high school girls tennis teams in Kirkland earned KingCo league honors at the end of the regular season.

Jim Waters, the coach at Lake Washington High School, was named the coach of the year. Kelly Wantanabe, from LWHS, was named to the first team All KingCo for the Crown Division. Her teammate Jess Lund earned an honorable mention.

Maria Jouravleva, who finished sixth at state, was named to the first team for Juanita High School. Teammates Anna Ludvigsen and Shelby Hill were given honorable mentions.
