The Lake Washington boys basketball team kept their season alive on Friday morning, beating Mountlake Terrace in the consolation bracket.

The Kangs won 52-42 over the Hawks and will play for fourth/sixth place on Saturday morning.

After the loss to University on Thursday, the Kangs needed to beat Mountlake Terrace to keep the season going.

It started off Friday morning, in the first game of the day at the Tacoma Dome, with the Hawks up 10-7 at the end of the first quarter. But a 15-10 second quarter gave the Kangs a 22-20 lead going into halftime.

Despite a 14-13 third quarter, in favor of the Hawks, Lake Washington surged in the final quarter, scoring 17, while holding Mountlake Terrace to just eight to win the game.

Matt Staudacher had 20 points during the game, while Darien Nelson-Henry added 15, despite an ankle injury the day before. Kelly Guy added eight points, Cody Bernstein put up five points and Guy Lynott had four.

The Kangs earned 38 rebounds, more than the 35 by the Hawks and had 12 3-point baskets.

The Kangs will play the winner of the O’Dea vs. Kennedy Catholic game at 8 a.m. on Saturday, March 3 at the Tacoma Dome.
