Lake Washington softball defeats Juanita for KingCo tournament title, both advance to districts

The Lake Washington High School softball team is well into defending its 2014 state title. The team finished the regular season with just one loss and defeated Juanita, 7-5, on Saturday to take the 2A/3A KingCo title at Lake Washington High School.

The Rebels, Kangs and Bellevue advance to the district tournament from KingCo.

Maddie Brown pitched the Kangs to the title against the Rebels, throwing a complete game, giving up just four earned runs while striking out eight batters. Lisa Nelson took the loss for the Rebels despite giving up just two earned runs and striking out nine batters.

Tori Bivens had two RBI during the game and went 2-for-3 with a double at the plate. Kangs Julie Turner, Hannah Walker and Brown each had a double.

Lexi Blackburn hit a home run for the Rebels, however it was not enough to knock off the champs.

Lake Washington head coach Traci Tawney was also named coach of the year for the KingCo league.

Juanita will play Chief Sealth at 5 p.m. today at the Southwest Athletic Complex in West Seattle during the first round of districts.

Lake Washington earned a bye with the KingCo title and will play the winner of Bishop Blanchet and Eastside Catholic at 7 p.m. on Tuesday at the Southwest Athletic Complex.
