Lake Washington, Juanita swimmers move on to district meet

The Lake Washington High boys swim and dive team finished seventh overall, and third among Class 3A teams, at the KingCo Conference championships on Saturday at Kamiak High School in Mukilteo.

Bellevue won the event, edging Mercer Island by 69 points for first place. Juanita finished 13th with 163 points.

Several Lake Washington swimmers swam state or district-qualifying times.

Junior Carlin Wong finished fourth in the 100-yard butterfly, just behind Skyline’s William O’Daffer, and was second among Class 3A competitors with a time of 53.49 seconds. Wong also finished ninth in the 100 backstroke with a time of 57.09 seconds.

Fellow Kangaroo Oliver Norred finished 24th overall in the butterfly, three seconds below the district qualifying standard.

Lake Washington freshman Jake Rinehart finished second in his finals heat and eigth overall in the 100 freestyle and posted an eighth-place finish in the 100 breaststroke.

Sophomore Heyes Raubacher finished ninth overall in the 200-yard freestyle and ninth in the 500 freestyle with district-qualifying times in both events. Fellow sophomore Will Reves took 12th in the 200 individual medley and 16th in the 100 backstroke.

Senior Jeremiah Dunbar made the finals in the 50 freestyle and qualified for the district championships by just over a second.

The LW boys 200 freestyle relay team — Reinhart, Dunbar, Stephen McKinney and Louis Norred — won the second heat of the finals in 1:32.86, a time fast enough to qualify for state and for the district competition.

Each team is allowed one entry per relay event for the district meet.

A handful of Juanita swimmers set district-qualifying times.

Juanita senior Charlie Kullman was among the Rebels’ top placers with a fifth-place finish in the 50 freestyle with a time of 22.46 seconds.

Sophomore Eugene Ngo finished 22nd overall in the 200 freestyle, Lee Enoch finished 22nd in the 200 individual medley and 23rd in the 100 backstroke, and sophomore Blaine Dahlman-oeth finished 23rd in the 100 breaststroke.

Juanita sophomore Kyle McWhirter met the standard for the district diving competition, finishing 10th at the KingCo championships with a score of 254.20.

Lake Washington and Juanita are both scheduled to compete in the Class 3A District Two meet, which begins Friday, Feb. 10 at Mary Wayte Pool on Mercer Island. The finals are set for Feb. 11.

The diving portion is scheduled for Feb. 11 at Juanita High School.
