Lake Washington High School girls soccer team to host state play-off game Wednesday

The Lake Washington High School girls’ soccer team is the Girls Soccer District 1-2 Tournament champion, defeating Squalicum on Nov. 9 in another shootout.

The Lake Washington High School girls soccer team is the Girls Soccer District 1-2 Tournament champion, defeating Squalicum on Nov. 9 in another shootout.

During the championship game, the Kangs took it into overtime with a game-tying goal from Captain Emily Bunnell, and then finally into a shootout.

The Kangs prevailed by scoring on every shot and by Kang goal keeper Maeve O’Connor blocking one of Squalicum’s shots.

“I am so impressed … the girls left everything on the field in this game,” said Head Coach Suzanne Hart.

The Kangs are headed to the state tournament.

“The Kangs are one of only 16 2A schools in the entire state still playing,” noted George Crowder, athletic director for Lake Washington High School.

The Kangs will host a state play-off game on Wednesday, Nov. 13 against Olympic High School from Bremerton. Kick-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Lake Washington High School stadium.
