Lake Washington girls win state soccer championship

The Girls U-16 Lake Washington Youth Soccer Club Select Crossfire Team won the state soccer championship on Feb. 22 at Starfire in Tukwila.

The Girls U-16 Lake Washington Youth Soccer Club Select Crossfire Team won the state soccer championship on Feb. 22 at Starfire in Tukwila.

The team is made up of 16 girls representing eight Eastside high schools, including Lake Washington, and coached by Redmond rocket scientist Yousef Habash and Brad Masters, of Kirkland.

The final at the Fred Meyer State Commissioners Cup was between two Lake Washington youth soccer teams – Crossfire Habash and Crossfire Button. The Crossfire versus Crossfire match was set when Crossfire Habash knocked out an Issaquah team in the semi-final and Crossfire Button beat a Tacoma team.

Crossfire Habash player Abby Frenkel placed a perfect header goal, followed by a tremendous save by keeper Brenda Agus in the final minutes of the championship. The final score was 1-0.
