Lake Washington boys lose during consolation round of state, end season

The Lake Washington boys basketball team lost its second game at state Thursday 68-57 to Lincoln High School. The loss ends the Kangs season.

Lake Washington got their offense going against Lincoln during the first quarter, scoring 19 points, but then lost control.

The Abes came right back during the second quarter to tie the game at 21-21 and regain the momentum.

Lincoln took the lead by half time, 30-27, on a 13-4 run. Foul trouble hurt the Kangs during the second quarter, as they went over the limit early.

Both teams shot 33 percent during the first half but the Abes held a 13-7 advantage in turnovers.

Lake Washington did a good job of moving the ball, scoring from multiple places on the floor. In contrast, Lincoln scored all but three first-half baskets from inside the key.

The third quarter went to Lincoln as they pounded the glass for defensive rebounds to stretch their lead by six points. But the Kangs made the fourth quarter interesting after falling behind by 10. A 7-2 run cut the lead in half but Lincoln was too much, pulling away with five consecutive points.

Two of the biggest issues during the game for the Kangs was bench scoring and points off turnovers. Lincoln led in both categories, outscoring the Kangs’ bench 19-6 and off turnovers 20-4.

The loss ends the Lake Washington team’s season with a record of 14-8 after winning the Crown Division title earlier this season.
