A local baseball team is headed to Compton, California to fight for a spot at the Pony Baseball World Series.

A local baseball team is headed to Compton, California to fight for a spot at the Pony Baseball World Series.

Kirkland Lux won the Northwest Regional Palomino Tournament with a 13-2 victory over Bothell Blues on Sunday, July 17, at Lee Johnson Field in Kirkland.

Lux, which plays home games at Lee Johnson Field, drew standout pitching performances in each of the three tournament games. Dillon Ferguson threw a complete game in Lux’s 10-1 win over Lacey Rainiers on July 14, striking out 19 of 21 batters.

Ethan Liggett, who saw time on the mound for Lake Washington High School’s state championship team, threw a complete game to beat Bothell 12-2 on Friday evening.

Blake Voutour’s three-run homer in the second inning gave Lux breathing room in the region championship game against Bothell, in which Cody Wilson got the start.

Next, Lux is scheduled compete at the West Zone tournament at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 28 in Compton. The winner of the tournament advances directly to the World Series in Santa Clara, California.

Lux is working to fundraise money to help offset expenses during the trip, and will hold a silent auction at 7 p.m. on Friday, July 22 at the Kirkland Eagles Club. The event will include music and dancing. Patrons can donate at the door.
