Juanita girls head to state tournament | Playoff update

After falling to Bellevue early in the KingCo tournament, the Juanita girls basketball team had the final say on Saturday, during the SeaKing district tournament. The Rebels beat Bellevue 52-37 to advance to the regional round of the state tournament, ending the Wolverines season.

Juanita will enter regionals as the No. 5 team from District 2, playing the No. 1 team from District 3/4 on Saturday, Feb. 25 at Rogers High School in Puyallup at 6 p.m.

Against Bellevue, the Rebels started slow and were down 14-12 at the end of the first quarter.  The Rebels pushed their way back into the lead in the second quarter, ending the first half up 26-19.

After the break, the Rebels seemed even more determined to get the win, up 37-23 at the end of three. They added 15 points in the final minutes of the game, while Bellevue had 14 points.

Saturday’s regional match up will be a loser out game, with the winner advancing to the state tournament at the Tacoma Dome, starting on March 1.
