For the first time since 2001, the Juanita High School varsity boys cross country team qualified for the state meet on Saturday at Lake Sammamish State Park in Issaquah.
Juanita finished second out of 12 teams at this year’s 3A combined District I and II Sea-King championships.
The Rebels had 101 points on the rainy and muddy course, while Interlake finished with first with 53 (lowest score wins). Ballard High School, Nathan Hale and Bainbridge Island finished third, fourth and fifth and all qualified for state.
Juanita senior Tom Mikkelson placed fourth in the overall in the race and finished with a time of 16-minutes, 37.20-seconds despite the weather conditions. Rounding out the remaining Juanita runners were senior Grant Mackey in 15th (17:04.26), junior Adrian Goodwin in 22nd (17:11.05), senior Noah Kells in 28th (17:22.85), sophomore Dane Garman in 36th (17:33.39), senior Nick Goodwin in 46th (17:43.64) and junior Michael Gengo in 54th (17:54.54).
A total of 91 runners competed in the race.
The state meet will be held Saturday in Pasco at Sun Willows Golf Course.
Juanita is schedule to run at 2 p.m.
