Juanita alum, SCC Storm shoot hoops for a cause

The Seattle Community College Storm Men’s team, with special guest Juanita High school alum Greg Davis, hosted their 5th Annual Free Throws for a Cause Fundraiser on Oct. 14 at the North Seattle campus gymnasium. The Storm, a self-supported athletic program, shot 100 free throws each to earn more than $2,300 in proceeds that went to benefit The Humane Society for Seattle/King County.

The team also visited the shelter, located in Bellevue, on Oct. 16 in order to learn more about SHS and their mission, as well as visit the animals their money was going to help. A non-profit organization, The Humane Society is not funded by the county, state or federal government and relies solely on the generosity of the community to save more than 5,000 animals’ lives every year.

In the past, SCC has donated to the American Red Cross in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, the American Cancer Society to benefit breast cancer patients, the Seattle Children’s Hospital, and most recently, the Seattle King County Coalition for Homelessness. In the event’s five-year existence, the Storm has earned more than $12,000, as well as donated their time to help others in a time of need.
