JHS volleyball | Rebels beat Bellevue 3-2, jump to third in KingCo

The Juanita High School volleyball team leapfrogged two teams and into third place in 3A KingCo with its 3-2 victory Thursday against Bellevue.

The Rebels began the match by winning a close 27-25 game and then taking a big 2-0 lead with a 25-21 victory.

Juanita had Bellevue on the ropes during the third game, as the team looked for a shutout. But the Wolverines refused to go down that easily, pulling out the 28-26 victory to stay alive.

Bellevue gained momentum from its third-game win and carried it into the fourth game, winning 25-23. But all the comebacks took their toll on the Wolverines, as Juanita’s stamina proved to be the deciding factor. The Rebels steamrolled their way to a 15-5 fifth-game victory.

Juanita was led by Brittany Webster, who finished with 25 kills, 13 digs and three aces. Vicky Neam was just as strong overall, as she posted 18 kills and 14 digs. From the serving position, Neam dominated with five aces. But the biggest threat from the serving position was Rebel Hannah Heltman, who contributed nine aces for the match. Rebel setter Alona Chenish had 48 assists for the match, while Ashley Manzoni led the squad with 19 digs.

The Rebels will travel to Renton for a 7 p.m. match to take on Liberty High School Tuesday.
