Boys Basketball: Guisness determined to not let Lake Washington slip further

Three days after a loss to Garfield and slipping back into a tie with Inglemoor and Woodinville for the top spot in the Crown Division of 4A KingCo, Ryan Guisness took control. The senior forward scored a season high 26 points to lead his team back to the win column as they defeated Ballard 78-70. The Lake Washington players knew what was on the line as they came out with offense on their mind, outscoring the Beavers 21-10 during the first quarter. But Ballard would not go quietly, cutting the lead to 43-36 before half time.

But Guisness wasn’t the only Kang player to put up double figures, making it difficult for the Beavers to gain any more ground during the second half. Lake Washington players Matt Staudacher (17 points) and Darien Nelson-Henry (12) gave Guisness some needed protection, as the Kangs improved their record to 8-4 in league play and 12-4 overall. The three teams are still tied for first place as both Inglemoor and Woodinville won Friday.

Lake Washington will play at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Newport.
