The Lake Washington High School football team’s 28 points during the second quarter was too much for Sammamish to overcome Friday, as the Kangs picked up their fourth win of the season, 47-26, in Bellevue.

The Kangs exploded out of the blocks, as Blake McKinnon scored on a 62-yard run play from scrimmage. The momentum was short lived, as the Totems put together a drive to score a touchdown and tie the game at 6-6. Both teams missed extra points following each score.

But Lake Washington would own the second quarter. A nine-yard touchdown pass from DJ Mann to Spencer Meuller set the tone for the remaining minutes before halftime. The two players hooked up again on Lake Washington’s next possession for a 28-yard touchdown pass. The rest of the second quarter was a blur, as Lake Washington running back Elliott Phillips raced up and down the field. First, he busted free for a 91-yard run from scrimmage, sprinting nearly the length of the field to the horror of the Sammamish sidelines.

The Totem players experienced deja vu on the Kangs next possession, as Phillips broke free from behind the line, taking the ball 72-yards for a score. Lake Washington held a 34-6 lead at halftime.

The beginning of the third quarter would be more of the same, as Phillips scored from two-yards out.

The Totems finally got back on track, scoring three consecutive touchdowns. But a Phillips’ fourth touchdown of the game to put the contest out of reach for the Totems.

The win returns Lake Washington to .500, at 4-4 overall on the season. The Kangs are tied with Mercer Island for fourth place in 3A KingCo with a 2-3 in-league record.

Lake Washington will attempt to get back over .500 at 7 p.m. on Oct. 31, as they host undefeated Bellevue.
