The Juanita High School girls basketball team’s season came down to facing a familiar foe in Bellevue during the district playoffs. But the loser-out game went to the Wolverines, 42-35, as suffocating second half defense ended the Rebel’s season Tuesday at Bellevue.

Juanita entered the fourth quarter with a slim 31-30 lead and dreams of qualifying for the state tournament within its reach. But the Rebels scored just four points during the final eight minutes of play.

Juanita began the game with a slight advantage, outscoring the Wolverines by two during the first quarter and by one point during the second quarter. But Bellevue would cut into that lead during the third as its defense began to clamp down, allowing just six third-quarter points.

Juanita’s Kate Cryderman led the team with 14 points. Cryderman averaged over 10 points a game this season. Kimberly Baba led the team in scoring this season with an average of 11 points per game.

Juanita’s season was the longest in 20 years, as they won their first district playoff game in two decades. The Rebels finish the season with a 14-11 record, including an 8-4 in-league mark, third best in 3A KingCo.
