Basketball: Inglemoor boys break three-way tie, Lake Washington loses two

Inglemoor finally broke the two-week three-way tie atop the Crown division with a win Friday against Roosevelt. Woodinville lost to Ballard and the Kangs were defeated by Bothell 69-51. During the contest, Bothell ran out to a 20-10 lead after just eight minutes of play. Lake Washington was never able to regain enough momentum to cut into the Cats’ lead. The biggest problem for the Kangs during the game was the scoring output of Bothell’s Dominic Ballard, who put up 26 points. Sean Frankenfield led Lake Washington with 15 points, while Ryan Guisness had 11 points.

Lake Washington lost a very close game at Newport 89-86 in overtime after battling back from a deep halftime deficit Tuesday.

The Kangs started slow, falling 16 points behind the Knights after 16 minutes of play. But a big third quarter, where the team managed to outscore the home squad 24-13, allowed Lake Washington to gain some momentum heading into the final quarter of regulation. The Kangs completed the comeback before the end of the fourth quarter, outscoring Newport 25-20, sending the game into overtime. But the Knights utilized their home-court advantage to win, outscoring the Kangs 13-10.

Lake Washington was led by Dallas Searles, who scored a season high 28 points, during the contest. The scoring output was 11 points better than his previous high for the season during the opener against Renton. Alex Houghton (15 points), Darien Nelson-Henry (14) and Matt Staudacher (13) also contributed to the effort for the Kangs. But the lack of help off the bench hurt Lake Washington, as just two other players scored. The losses drop the Kangs to 8-6 in league play.

Lake Washington traveled to Roosevelt Tuesday (after Reporter deadline) and will host Inglemoor Friday at 8 p.m. during the final game of the regular season.
