We are all sinners, pray for our nation | Letter

Did the 103 people who were killed or horribly injured in Orlando on June 12 deserve what happened to them? Jesus once asked his disciples if they thought that the 18 men who were killed when the Tower of Siloam fell on them were worse sinners than other men because they suffered in that way. He then stated "I tell you, no! But unless you repent, you too will all perish".

We are in serious trouble. Our nation is in trouble and we are all in this together. We are all going to die some day whether we are murdered at age 18 or die of congestive heart failure at age 98. The real question is “what happens to people after they die?”, and the answer to that question is the only thing that is really going to matter in the end.

The fact is that all human beings are born with sin, which causes us to do silly, stupid and destructive things even when we know better and struggle not to do these things. Call it a birth defect if you like. The only cure is Jesus; His sacrificial death on the cross that pays the penalty for our sins and the gift of His Holy Spirit that gives us something to at least fight back with against our sin until we are completely freed from it.

Franklin Graham will be in Olympia on June 29th to hold a prayer rally at noon on the Capitol steps as part of his Decision America Tour. The purpose of this tour is to turn our hearts back to the Lord, to publicly repent of our sins and to collectively pray for our nation that God would forgive us and protect us from all those who hate us, which would be Satan and his followers.

I plead with all who believe in the God of the Bible to make time to be there in Olympia at noon on June 29 if it is at all possible. Franklin Graham and his team will be holding prayer rallies on the capitol steps of each of the 50 states in the U.S.A. by the end of 2016. This is an amazing and historic chance for people to actually do something to fight against the evil and darkness that is spreading over our nation instead of just standing helplessly watching and wringing our hands. People, please come to Olympia on June 29 and pray for our nation.

Jane E. Peterson, Kirkland
