Sen. Cyrus Habib on the retirement of Lt. Gov. Brad Owen

[The] announcement, while long expected, truly marks the end of an era in Washington politics and civic life.

State Senator Cyrus Habib (D-Bellevue), a candidate for Lieutenant Governor, issued this statement following the anticipated announcement that current Lt. Gov. Brad Owen will not seek re-election. Habib represents Kirkland from the 48th District:

“[The] announcement, while long expected, truly marks the end of an era in Washington politics and civic life. Lt. Gov. Brad Owen has served with distinction, both as an even-handed leader of the State Senate and as an ambassador for Washington State.  His wit and candor brought levity and perspective to even the most tense moments on the Senate floor, and his mastery of parliamentary procedure and the State Constitution will truly be missed.  He and Linda have my gratitude for the many contributions they have made to our state.

I wish him well as his tenure draws to a close, and join others in honoring his long career in public service.”
