Duane Davidson for Washington State Treasurer | Letter

The race for Washington State Treasurer is one of historical proportions. For the first time in 60 years, a Republican will be elected to that office. In this race, voters would be best served by electing Duane Davidson.

The race for Washington State Treasurer is one of historical proportions. For the first time in 60 years, a Republican will be elected to that office. In this race, voters would be best served by electing Duane Davidson.

Davidson has a much better understanding of the intricacies of this position. He would be also be a calm, steady steward of the taxpayers’ money. This has been demonstrated during his service as Benton County Treasurer through a history of efficiency and clean audits of his office. Davidson has served two stints as president of the Washington State Association of County Treasurers. This experience merited him endorsements from 37 out of 39 county treasurers.

On the other hand, Michael Waite has no political experience. His current position in the state treasury is one of an investment role. That should raise concerns with voters. Also, Waite intends to use the treasury as a bully pulpit to insure legislators don’t pass an income tax. The role of treasurer is not to follow a partisan tilt. Michael Waite doesn’t understand this concept.

In contrast, Davidson sees the office for the vital managerial responsibility that it is. The role of treasurer is overseeing the state’s cash flow, debt, long-term and short-term investments, and the sale of bonds. The legislature makes the spending decisions and Davidson would only assist the legislature if asked. If elected treasurer, Davidson plans to keep partisan politics out of the office. His dedication of maintaining a non-partisan treasury merited himself endorsements from legislators of both parties.
