Nancy Houston Guthrie

Nancy Guthrie passed away on Tuesday, July 20, 2010 at Virginia Mason Hospital. Nancy was born in Worcester, Massachusetts on November 8, 1932, to Neill and Elizabeth Houston. She grew up in Shrewsbury, MA and graduated from Dana Hall Girls School in Wellesley, MA. She attended Cornell University, in Ithaca, NY were she was a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. She moved to Seattle in 1954 where her sister Jean Houston Plum was living at the time. There she met Naval Reserve Officer, UW alum, and Insurance Broker, Gene Edward (Gus) Guthrie. They were married October 8, 1955. Nancy was a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma Alumni Association both locally and nationally. She served as chapter advisor at the University of Washington and also Province Director of Chapters for the NW province.Nancy has resided in Kirkland since 1982. She was an active community and youth advocate serving as an advisor and board member for both the Kirkland Performance Center and the Kirkland Boys & Girls Club. She enjoyed being surrounded by her many friends and fellow supporters of these organizations and the Kirkland community. Her spunk and humor will be greatly missed. She is preceded in death by her Mother, Father, Sister and Husband. She is survived by her two daughters Lee Cummings (Phil), and Marylou Brannan (Randall), and five grandchildren, Kenneth Cummings, McCauley Coburn, Shannon Cummings, Colin Moris, and Cady Moris. A service to celebrate her life will be held at the Kirkland Performance Center (350 Kirkland Ave) on Thursday, July 29 at 2:00pm.
