Marion G. Decker

Marion Geanette Decker, of Kirkland, died on Sept. 23 at the age of 91.

Mrs. Decker was born Marion G. Glenn on May 16, 1919, the daughter of Fred G. and Anna Glenn. She was raised in Fowlerville, Mich. and graduated from Fowlerville High School. Marion also graduated from the school of nursing at Bellevue Hospital of New York City as a registered nurse. During this time she met Frederick E. Decker.

Marion and Frederick married and after WWII, they moved to Laconia, N.H. where their son, Glen Paul Decker was born in 1947. Eventually, the family moved to Michigan and raised their son and almost five additional siblings. Unfortunately, Marion was unable to carry these babies to term. Later, Marion and Fred worked at Foote Memorial hospital – Marion as the head nurse of the pediatric ward and Fred managed inhalation therapy. Marion retired from this occupation in 1981 at age 62. After sharing many happy retirement years at their home in Hersey, Mich. on the Muskegon River, they re-located in 1999 to Kirkland to be near their son, Glen.

Marion was a cancer survivor whose life passions were the care of babies, gardening, her son and managing his art classes, painting, ceramics, and teddy bear creation. Marion is survived by her son, Glen Decker of Kirkland.
