In Loving Memory of
Frederick Clark Wicks
Frederick Clark Wicks, 85, passed away peacefully on October 16 in Lake
Stevens, Washington. Born on July 23, 1940, in Providence, Rhode Island, he
was the beloved son of the late Delbert and Elsie Wicks.
Fred lived a life marked by purpose, integrity, and deep compassion. A proud
graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy (Class of 1962), he went on to serve his
country honorably in the United States Air Force for four years. Just one day
after graduation, he married the love of his life, Judith Ann Sass, beginning a
partnership grounded in devotion, laughter, and shared adventure.
Professionally, Fred built a successful career with Timken, where he worked
in engineering and marketing. He took great pride in his work, not only for
the challenges it offered, but for the friendships it fostered.
In retirement, Fred turned his focus to service and community. He became
deeply involved in social justice efforts through Holy Spirit Lutheran Church,
where he worked tirelessly to help resettle refugees and support families
building new lives.
Fred’s passions were as boundless as his generosity. He was a devoted
traveler, an enthusiastic fan of his Cowboys and Navy football teams, and a
lover of spirited conversation, especially when it came to history or politics.
Those who knew him best will smile remembering his daily “hot takes,”
always delivered with humor, thoughtfulness, and heart.
Fred was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Judith Ann Wicks. He is
survived by his sister, Elaine Bassham and brother, Bob Wicks. By his children,
Amy Wallace and Chip Wicks; his grandchildren, Ryan Wicks, Madison
Noteboom, Sydney and Ryder Wallace; and his great-grandchildren, Calie
Noteboom, Layla Wicks, and Sienna Wicks—each of whom brought him
immense pride and joy. He also leaves behind countless dear friends who will
miss his wisdom, warmth and wit.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to either the
Refugee Resettlement Committee Fund at Holy Spirit, and/or Global Refuge
(https://www.globalrefuge.org/) – both organizations support the
resettlement of refugees, a cause close to Fred’s heart.
