King County’s Kirkland Pump Station and Sewer Upgrade Project is scheduled to begin construction in early 2011 to replace aging sewer infrastructure. As part of the upgrade, King County will connect a new force main extending down Kirkland Avenue to the county’s Eastside Interceptor, located in the railroad right-of-way.

In preparation for this project, crews began locating utilities along Kirkland Avenue between Third Street and Railroad Avenue in late June. This work will resume on Monday, July 12 and may continue on Tuesday, July 13.

Locating utilities requires crews to make small excavations called potholes along Kirkland Avenue to locate pipes, wires and conduits running beneath the street. Temporary traffic diversions around crews and equipment will be necessary for the safe completion of this work.

What to Expect

· Work will occur all day on Monday July 12, and could extend into Tuesday, July 13.

· Crews and equipment, including a vactor truck, will work at locations along Kirkland Avenue between Third Street and Railroad Avenue.

· Temporary traffic diversions on Kirkland Avenue between Third Street and Railroad Avenue.
