Two brothers are on the run and are being sought by law enforcement for the murders of an Arlington couple.
Warrants for the arrest of Johne Blaine Reed, 53, and his brother Tony Clyde Reed, 49, have been issued after police obtained video footage tying the brothers to the disposal of Patrick Shunn,45, and his wife Monique Patenaude’s, 46, vehicles. The couple was reported missing April 12 and additional evidence was found at John Reed’s house tying him to the murders.
Shunn and Patenaude’s two heavily damaged vehicles were found dumped over an embankment near Oso around 200 feet apart last week.
On April 18, detectives located the suspect’s red 2007 Volkswagen EOS Coupe in Pheonix, Arizona. They had previously found a vehicle belonging to the men in Ellensburg during the previous weekend.
Detectives say the brothers may now be driving a 2002 Gold Acura 32T with Arizona plates BNN-9968, and may be trying to get to Mexico after the car was spotted in Calexico, California on April 18.
The Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office is working with the Phoenix Police Department and the US Marshals to find the Reeds.
According to the Everett Daily Herald, Shunn and Patenaude were neighbors with John Reed at their Whitman Road property.
Reed’s property bordered the hillside which collapsed in the 2014 Oso mudslide which killed 43 people. He sold his property to Snohomish County in March for $244,000.
Shunn and Patenaude were believed to have been in an ongoing land dispute with John Reed, who detectives said had been frequenting his old property.
According to a press release from the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office, evidence found in the couple’s vehicles and at the home of John Reed led detectives to believe the couple was murdered.
The Reed brothers are both convicted felons and are considered to be armed and dangerous.
Detectives found a vehicle belonging to John Reed in Ellensburg on Saturday but their current location is unknown.
John Reed is 5’08”, 190 pounds with hazel eyes and gray hair and his brother Tony is 5’11”, 150 pounds with green eyes and gray hair.
Anyone with information about the whereabouts of John or Tony Reed or with information about the murder of Shunn and Patenaude are asked to call 911 or the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office tip line at 425.388.3845.
