Due to the discovery of blue-green algae in Lake Washington at Waverly Beach Park in Kirkland, humans and animals should not go in the water.

Advisory signs warning about possible “toxic blue-green algae” have been posted at the beach, which is located at 633 Waverly Way.

In recent weeks, samples of Lake Washington water at Arrowhead Point in Kenmore and Matthews Beach in Seattle were tested for the algae and found to have high levels of microcystin.

The Washington State Department of Health (DOH) warns that blue-green algae blooms can be different in colors, may appear as foam, scum or streaks on the surface of water and can poison animals, wildlife, and people.
