Kirkland businesses CSA Group, Lake Washington Physical Therapy and Xtreme Consulting have moved on in Round II of Hopelink’s sixth annual Can Madness competitive food drive after knocking off their opponents in the first week of the tournament. All three join the round of 16 remaining teams for the second week of the competition. Last week, 32 teams combined brought in a first-round record 7,445 pounds of food and $850 in cash.
The three surviving Kirkland teams join nine competitors from Redmond, two from Bellevue, and one each from Seattle and Shoreline in Round II of the drive to help stock the agency’s five food banks.
Hopelink Can Madness is patterned after the national spring college basketball tournament, matching businesses in weekly competitions to see which can bring in the most food. Teams are bracketed together in pairs and one winner from each two-member bracket advances to the following week. The competition will continue until the winner is announced April 3.
